Ruby Hotels announces new Dusseldorf flagship opening

Ruby Hotels, the Munich-based hotel brand and pioneer of the ‘Lean Luxury’ philosophy, led by Michael Struck, CEO and founder, has launched its third Dusseldorf hotel in Kasernenstraße. Ruby Luna opens as a 206-room hotel, joining Ruby’s two existing Düsseldorf properties, and will be the hotel group’s Dusseldorf flagship property.

Ruby Luna is set in the former Commerzbank building, recognised as one of Germany’s most significant high-rise buildings located between Königsallee with its many boutiques, and Carlsplatz with its bustling market stalls. Just a short walk away is Dusseldorf’s old town, the Schloßturm, the Tonhalle, and the Rhine promenade, as well as the futuristic Benrather Straße train station offering excellent transport links and easy access to the airport.

The 6,300 m² property houses 206 rooms overlooking Dusseldorf, ranging in size from cosy ‘Nest’ rooms (14-15 m²), to expansive ‘Loft’ rooms (21-23 m²), and enjoys 13 floors, a spacious and stylish 24-hour bar, café and lounge on the ground floor.

Inspired by the 1950s and 1960s optimism, which saw man’s adventure into space, an outer space theme runs throughout the hotel, with countless interior elements that bring the Space Age to life. Rockets and space capsules can be found at every turn; a ‘floating’ open ground floor creates a unique sense of space in the public areas; a former concrete ramp to the basement is decked out with glass panels to offer a bird’s eye view of the ground below. Ruby Luna’s bar, the longest bar of all Ruby properties, features gold-tinted glass panes, terrazzo and flagstone tiles that glamorously contrast with the exposed concrete of the public areas.

Ruby Luna’s flagship title is credit to its three publicly accessible outdoor areas: the terrace in front of the main entrance boasts Ruby’s signature branding aesthetics; the peaceful Lunar Dunes courtyard is kitted out in the style of an extra-terrestrial desert landscape with its own UFO; the Observatory Bar located on the 13th floor offers breath-taking panoramic views over Dusseldorf and the starry night sky.

All guest rooms showcase Ruby Hotels’ sleep-scientist-approved formula for a peaceful night’s sleep, with full soundproofing, blackout curtains, high-quality linen and extra-long and wide custom mattresses. The room interiors enjoy fresh white finishings, high, open ceilings, integrated glass rainfall showers, wood wall panelling and high-quality oak floors to offer a luxury feel, whilst the design elements of the exterior façade are echoed in the interior panelling, with integrated blackout blinds, as well as in the cherry wood wall panels. A Marshall guitar amp in each room means guests can choose to play their own intergalactic playlist, plug in their own guitar or borrow one from reception. Guests can also tune into the hotel group’s own internet radio station, ‘Ruby Radio’.

Konstantin Olbrecht will take over management of Ruby Luna, "Ruby Luna is architecturally unique and our interior design team has contributed with a lot of charm to ensure that every guest will enjoy a wonderful stay. Dusseldorf is and will continue to be an important business location. We are confident that our business will pick up in a timely manner."

"Dusseldorf is one of the most exciting cities in Germany for Ruby," says Michael Struck. “It’s a no brainer that we would want to be represented here with three hotels and a workspace. Whilst our guests can benefit from a wider choice of availability, locations and experiences, Ruby can benefit from the operational synergies in staffing and purchasing. We think and act in the long term."

Just like the group’s other houses, the new hotel in Dusseldorf will follow Ruby’s ‘Lean Luxury’ philosophy: a top location, high-quality fittings, and outstanding design. All of this is offered at an affordable price by rigorously cutting out the superfluous and focusing on the essential.

“The current challenges and future prospects of the industry have confirmed our Lean Luxury approach. We make a luxurious and unique hotel experience affordable for our guests, and combine this with a cost structure, which is leaner and more adaptable than usual. This has the added advantage of reducing the risk for our real estate partners,” said Michael Struck with reference to the current situation. “Our strategy works because we fit our luxuries into a relatively small area. We plan and build on a more modular basis; we centralise more and we consistently automate systems behind the scenes.”

Ruby Hotels and Michael Struck operate two hotels in Dusseldorf, Ruby Coco, centrally located in the KÖ-Galerie, and Ruby Leni, in Friedrichstadt, as well as the co-working space Ruby Carl in Breite Straße.

Rates start at 74 euros for the opening.
