From haberdashery to hotel

Ever the trend-setter, Ruby Marie began life in 1911 as Austria’s first department store. Elegant floors offering everything from haute couture to homeware bustled with the city’s chicest.


For several decades, the store thrived, but by the end of the century, the future looked less certain. A true pioneer never loses her spark though. In 2015, at the age of 104, Marie made a suitably stylish comeback as a hotel.

You'll find free tea and an iron on the 3rd floor, plus a Maxi Bar selling everything from drinks and snacks to umbrellas and toothbrushes.

    Elevate your stay

    For a break from the hustle and bustle, head out to the rooftop terrace. Choose a lounger or a giant beanbag, or settle in at a café table to watch the world go by. Start your day with yoga or an al fresco breakfast, spend an afternoon basking with a book or kick back with a cocktail on a sunny evening. We only use the terrace in fair weather, so please ask a host.

    A few stops by U-Bahn from Ruby Marie, you'll find Ruby Paul, our light, airy workspace housed in Vienna’s palatial former post office. There, you'll find hot desks, co-working tables and meeting rooms with all mod cons. Get a discounted day pass, exclusively for hotel guests.

    During Ruby Marie’s retail days, her crowning glory was a cinema – one of the first in Vienna, no less. So it seemed only fitting to reinstate a screening room, with 25 luxurious leather seats and décor inspired by the swinging 60s. Grab a drink from the bar and some nibbles from the vending machine, then sit back and relax with a classic.

    Ready to relax and recharge? Take a break and unwind your body and mind in our dedicated yoga space. Whether morning, noon, or night, this peaceful spot offers a quiet place to stretch, exercise or meditate. Need a mat? Hotel guests can borrow one for free. Just ask at the bar.

    Whether you’ve got a book you can’t put down or just need a moment of calm, head to the library. Tucked away on the 6th floor, it's a tranquil spot to catch your breath and collect your thoughts. Curl up in a cosy chair to finish that last chapter, or stretch out on the sofa and let your mind drift a while.

Enjoy our breakfast

Our tasty, locally sourced breakfast buffet is served in the bar every morning, along with bottomless barista coffee or organic tea. Tuck into fresh fruit and superfood cereals, along with wholegrain bread and a delicious selection of meats and cheeses. Our favourite is the local speciality, Liptauer. Grab a bagel or a slice of bread and top with lashings of this seriously addictive spicy cream cheese.
