Explore Stockholm the Ruby way - through its neighbourhoods, cafés, cultural spots, beaches and the everyday moments that shape the city’s rhythm. A collection of places, stories, and small discoveries waiting just beyond Ruby Frida's doorstep.

Your Journey Starts Here

Hey there – and welcome to Stockholm, a city built on fourteen islands where water sparkles around every corner and life moves at a wonderfully relaxed pace. Step outside Ruby Frida on Kungsholmen and you’ll feel it right away: a mix of calm waterfront strolls, creative energy and that effortlessly cool Scandinavian style.

From our doorstep at one of Kungsholmen’s main transport hubs, the whole city is within easy reach. Stockholm Central Station is just ten minutes away, while the cobbled lanes of Gamla Stan are about twenty minutes by metro or bus. Even the airport feels close – a direct coach gets you there in around forty minutes.

But before you rush off, linger a little on Kungsholmen. This island has its own rhythm – leafy promenades, cosy cafés and sunset views over the water. Lace up your walking shoes, grab a cinnamon bun, and let’s explore.

Gamla Stan – A Storybook Old Town

Every first visit to Stockholm begins here. Gamla Stan, the Old Town, feels like stepping into a Nordic fairytale. Think pastel townhouses leaning over narrow alleyways, golden church towers and hidden courtyards waiting to be discovered.

Start at Stortorget, the city’s oldest square, then wander without a plan. Pop into tiny boutiques, pause for coffee, and let the maze of streets lead the way. Somewhere along the route, you’ll likely stumble upon the Royal Palace, one of Europe’s largest.

Take your time here. Gamla Stan isn’t meant to be rushed.

  • A cozy, modern hotel room with a large bed, white linens, and two pillows is reflected in a mirror framed by lit bulbs. The room has wooden accents, a chair, lamps, and large windows with sheer curtains.
  • A woman with long red hair smiles while playing an acoustic guitar in a cozy indoor setting, with drinks and snacks on a wooden table in the foreground.
  • A cozy lounge area with vintage armchairs and sofas, wooden tables, and a guitar. The space is lit warmly with lamps, draped in deep purple curtains, and features a large disco ball hanging above.
  • A woman and a man sit at a small table in a cozy restaurant, enjoying a meal together. The woman eats from a bowl, while the man smiles and cuts his food. Drinks and plates are on the table, with shelves in the background.

Kungsholmen – Your Neighbourhood by the Water

Back on Kungsholmen, the vibe shifts from historic to effortlessly local.

A short walk from Ruby Frida brings you to Norr Mälarstrand, a waterfront promenade where Stockholmers come to jog, picnic or simply watch the boats drift by. In summer, terraces fill with laughter and clinking glasses. In winter, the crisp air and golden sunsets make the stroll just as magical.

This is the kind of place where the city slows down. Walk along the water, breathe it in, and let the view do the rest.

Södermalm – Stockholm’s Creative Playground

Ready for something a little trendier? Head south to Södermalm, Stockholm’s creative heart.

Vintage stores, indie cafés, craft beer bars – it’s all here. Wander through SoFo (short for “South of Folkungagatan”), where artists, designers and coffee lovers have shaped one of the city’s coolest neighbourhoods.

Before sunset, make your way to Monteliusvägen. The panoramic view over the city’s rooftops and water is pure magic.

A Little Pop History Around the Corner

Just steps from Ruby Frida once stood Cheiron Studios, the legendary recording studio that shaped the sound of global pop in the ‘90s and early 2000s. This is where Swedish producers helped create chart-toppers for artists like the Backstreet Boys, Britney Spears and NSYNC. So yes – that catchy chorus stuck in your head? It might have been born just around the corner.

Hungry? Kungsholmen Has You Covered

Stockholm runs on coffee breaks (fika), fresh pastries and long, relaxed dinners. Luckily, you won’t have to go far.

And When the Day Winds Down…

After wandering medieval streets, chasing island views and discovering Stockholm’s café culture, it’s time to head back. At Ruby Frida, the city’s rhythm softens. The lights glow a little warmer. Conversations linger a little longer. Pour a drink, sink into the moment, and watch the Stockholm evening unfold.

Because the best city guides don’t rush you. They simply show you where to begin.
