Ruby CEO & founder Michael Struck appoints an executive board and strengthens the company in key positions

Through the strengthening of its management structure, Ruby Hotels is preparing for its current expansion in Europe and Asia. Nine hotels with a total of 1,700 rooms are currently under construction or in the planning phase of construction. In the course of this process, the staff is growing to reach a total of over 400 employees. Four of the newly planned hotels will be located outside of Germany. With the help of renowned Asian partners, the first Ruby Hotel in Shanghai will open by the end of this year. The opening of a hotel in London will follow in the autumn of next year.

In preparation for this growth, Ruby began to expand its management capacities at the beginning of last year. The central office in Munich has 45 employees at this point. Nine additional managers in key positions have strengthened the Ruby management team over the course of the last 12 months (see Box A). In particular, the areas of development, architecture & interior, operations support, and sales as well as reservations & revenue management have been systematically developed in order to accommodate the increasing demands. “We began early and took our time in order to find the right candidates”, explains Michael Struck, Ruby’s CEO and founder. He also astutely adds, “Nowadays, considering the fierce competition for talent, you’ve also got to have a little bit of luck.”

The establishment of a new executive board is the latest step that has been taken in order to strengthen Ruby’s managerial structure. Michael Struck has appointed six longstanding employees to manage Ruby together with him in the future (see Box B). “For a number of years already, we have had a strong executive team whose competence, management skills and passion have made Ruby what it is today. The expansion of the executive board is the logical next step that will allow us to develop our managerial processes and structures in order to properly accommodate our growth,” says Struck.
