Soon it's time again. But before the year draws to a close, our favourite time of the year begins, the Christmas time. Even if it gets darker and colder, there are many beautiful places to explore in Munich in December.
In Munich there is felt at every corner a Christmas market, of which many are very similar. But a very special one is the Märchenbazar, which can be translated into 'fairytale bazaar'. Fortunately, every market has something very special about it. But if you want to get to know the Munich music scene, you should definitely stop by Leonrodplatz. With the exuberant program you don't have a chance to get to know everything - but there are lots of possibilities to experience something really extraordinary!
The rest of the programme is also something to be proud of. Because there is no other Christmas market in Munich where you can meet the rest of the world so beautifully. Falafel or sweet vegan crêpes? Peruvian fashion or handmade jewellery? Afrojazz or indie pop? This is where it all comes together in an inimitable way.
And the best part: the Märchenbazar takes place just a short winter walk starting or you can take the tram from opposite of Ruby Lilly.
Christmas flair without freezing your fingers off? This really is possible! The ChristkindlTram of the MVG will drive again through the city centre from 30.11. to 23.12.2019. Mulled wine, children's punch, festive music and sweets are on board. And the best, a sightseeing tour through Munich is included. You only must reserve your tickets at least 24 hours before departure.
And if the eternal standing around with mulled wine in your hand gets on your nerves at some point, you can also get active at the Christmas market at the Chinese Tower.
It couldn't be more idyllic: Under the chestnut trees right next to the Chinese Tower the curling rinks will be set up again this winter.
Two 18-metre long rinks are the perfect place for perhaps the most popular Bavarian winter sport of all - for all age groups, curling professionals, amateurs and anyone who simply wants to enjoy winter fun with family, friends or colleagues!
After curling you probably have to warm up first. To do this you have to get out of the English Garden and into Schwabing. There we prefer to go for coffee and cake to Franca. She has her own café in which the cake is still baked by herself and where there are so few tables that she takes her time to chat extensively with all the guests.
Every year we ask ourselves anew what we should give to our loved ones at Christmas. How about a sustainable gift this year? In the Concept Store galore# you will surely find what you are looking for. Here there is something for everyone. On one wall you'll find sunglasses from the French brand Izipizi, in the middle of the room you'll find yoga equipment and Munich natural cosmetics and a shelf dedicated exclusively to the joy of travelling, cooking and living in book form. And to do justice to the title "Concept Store", you can also have the owner prepare delicious coffee, cakes and small to large snacks for you.
And if you haven't found enough gifts yet or just want to treat yourself to something, we have two more shops on the list that are well worth a visit.
Room To Dream is the name of the one store that already says everything there is to say.
Sois Blessed is a store just a few corners away, but at least as beautiful. The Concept Store has clothes, accessories and decorative items. In our Munich City Guide we have already recommended both stores and we like to go there again and again.
