#betterfriday Introducing The Young Vic

The Young Vic is one of Europe’s leading producing theatres. For many years the Young Vic has been synonymous with inclusivity, accessibility and creativity. They catalyse debate and channel their work into the digital world, to reach new audiences and continue conversations outside of their four walls. They foster emerging talent and collaborate with the world's finest directors, performers and creatives, to create affordable, award-winning productions which engage with the world we live in.

The Young Vic also delivers an extensive outreach programme, Taking Part, which offers year round free creative opportunities, including free tickets, reaching over 15,000 people a year. This work focuses on engaging with those who are vulnerable and most at risk of being excluded from the arts.

Young Vic Christmas Campaign

This festive season, the Young Vic are fundraising £20,000 for their Directors Program.

The Young Vic has been running the Directors Program for nearly twenty years, offering directors a unique opportunity to exchange experiences with peers and be part of a network of talented directors, designers and producers living and working in the UK. Since theatres closed in March 2020, the programme has responded to the needs of freelance creatives, with over 3,000 participants across the country attending remote sessions held up to five times a week.

Help them continue this vital work, training aspiring artists and setting the stage for the theatre of tomorrow.

Young Vic Gift Membership

This Christmas you can also give a thoughtful and charitable gift: the gift of theatre with a Young Vic Theatre Friends Membership.

A Young Vic Friends Membership gives your loved one access to a range of exclusive benefits and perks, including priority booking to the best seats when the theatre reopens for its 2021 trailblazing season, and behind-the-scenes content and experiences. Or for that little something extra, upgrade them to a Good Friend Membership for free programmes and access to one of the Young Vic’s fabulous supporter events.

At this challenging time for the theatre sector, your membership gift helps the Young Vic do the following:

  • Keep the local community connected and creative – your support could help fund a writing workshop or creative session with some of the most vulnerable people in Lambeth and Southwark. In 2019, the Office for National Statistic’s ‘Personal Wellbeing Report’ found the boroughs the Young Vic work in registered in the bottom 10% for well-being in the UK
  • Support the Young Vic Directors Program, which trains up aspiring artists and sets the stage for the theatre of tomorrow. Since March 2020, the Director’s Program has delivered 116 workshops online to over 3,000 early-career creatives
  • Keep ticket prices accessible - once the theatre can open its doors again, membership supports the vital mission of ensuring audiences from many different backgrounds and experiences can come to the theatre; the Young Vic gives 10% of tickets free to schools and neighbours, irrespective of box office demand

This year has been very challenging for everyone. So we’ve decided to skip our usual Black Friday and join the #betterfriday movement this year: Let’s discuss travel plans and discounts at another time, right now we’d like to use our reach to create a stage for charity projects that support cultural diversity and inclusion in all our Ruby destinations.

We're introducing one amazing charity per day and show you how to support them. Leave a little donation if you can, and if not, just read more about all the charities we have chosen for each destination and find out more about their work and like, follow and support them on social media. We belong together.
