Als je Ruby Coco komt binnenwaaien vanuit de chicste straat van Düsseldorf, is het lastig om je geen cool-nonchalante houding aan te meten. Op de plek waar Ruby Leni nu staat, stond ooit een van de belangrijkste theaters van Europa. Leni ontleent haar naam dan ook aan Helena uit Goethe’s Faust. Ter herinnering aan haar tijd in de schijnwerpers hebben we de bühne opgetuigd, met antieke rekwisieten en kostuums, vloeiende lijnen, zachte stoffen en zorgvuldig gekozen vintage stukken.

Ruby Luna

Op een steenworp afstand van de Altstadt schiet de architectuur van Ruby Luna uit de jaren 50 de lucht in. Het is een torenhoge getuigenis van dat hoogst ambitieuze tijdperk: het ruimtevaarttijdperk. Het ontwerp van Luna is geïnspireerd op het optimisme en de energie die in die tijd overheersten. Het heeft een mix van strakke lijnen en sterren, afgewisseld met speelse kleuren en heldere chroomaccenten.

Verspreid over twee verdiepingen in een helder, modern atrium, vind je flexwerkplekken, co-workingplekken, privékantoren en vergaderzalen, plus comfortabele sofa’s voor informele gesprekken. Pak een gratis kop koffie, verbind je laptop met het razendsnelle wifi-netwerk en ga aan de slag.

 

Ruby Carl ligt op een paar minuten met de metro vanaf Düsseldorf Hauptbahnhof, dat op ongeveer 25 minuten rijden van Keulen ligt.

Of je nu in de stad bent voor je werk of voor je plezier, Düsseldorf zal je niet teleurstellen. Het mooiste is dat alle topbezienswaardigheden op loopafstand liggen van Ruby Coco, Ruby Leni en Ruby Luna. Dus waar wacht je nog op?

Stadscentrum

Als je in de geschiedenis wilt duiken, dan is de Altstadt een goede plek om te starten. Je vindt er mooie gebouwen, schilderachtige, geplaveide straatjes en de legendarische gedraaide torenspits van St Lambertus, evenals kunstgalerieën en musea.

 

Heb je een droge mond gekregen van al die cultuur, zet dan koers richting de oevers van de Rijn. Op een zonnige dag ben je nergens beter af dan op de promenade langs de rivier. Plof lekker neer, bestel een Altbier en laat de wereld – en de boten – aan je voorbij trekken.

 

Zin in iets stevigers? Trek dan weer landinwaarts naar de bruisende Carlsplatz, waar fijnproevers hun hart kunnen ophalen aan lekkernijen van currywurst tot heerlijke champagne.

En heb je nieuwe energie opgedaan, dan is het hoog tijd voor een rondje etalages kijken. De Königsallee (ook wel bekend als de Kö) is misschien wel de stijlvolste straat van Duitsland. Met zijn vele boetieks en grote namen is het een paradijs voor liefhebbers van designkleding, zelfs als je budget niet groot genoeg is voor zo’n prijzig souvenir.

Nachtleven

Als de avond nadert, zijn de dineropties bijna eindeloos. Heb je het liever wat levendiger, dan zijn de gezellige kroegen van de Ratinger Straße een must. Deze heeft de bijnaam ‘de langste bar ter wereld’, is één van de oudste straten van de stad en een ideale plek om nog een slok van het plaatselijk gebrouwen bier te proeven. Proost.
