Overlooking Amstelkwartier, one of Amsterdam’s newest neighbourhoods, Ruby Emma and Ruby Luuk are a five-minute stroll from the banks of the river
Amstel and pretty Park Somerlust.
Brunch
Brunch-lovers can be in trendy de Pijp for coffee and waffles in 20 minutes by Metro, while the Dutch masters of Museumsplein
and the city’s pretty canals are a few stops further on by tram.
Museums
The Rijksmuseum is a must-see, with its collection of works by Rembrandt and Vermeer, along with the Van Gogh Museum. For something more up-to-date, step next door to the Stedelijk to explore modern and contemporary art. Also well worth visiting is Anne Frank House – her former home and hiding place, and now a museum dedicated to the diarist. When you're ready for a pause, nearby Vondelpark is a tranquil spot for a stroll.
Getting around
Of course, no trip to Amsterdam would be complete without a two-wheeled tour. So borrow a Ruby bike and travel like a local. If you're in search of a rural idyll, the historic village of Ouderkerk aan de Amstel
is a half-hour bike ride upstream from Ruby Emma.
Nightlife
For something altogether more eye-opening, head to De Wallen. The medieval heart of the city is now home to its infamous red-light district and Sexmuseum.
If all that exploring has worked up a thirst, there's no shortage of friendly bars, serving up lip-smacking lagers and meaty Bitterballen. Proost!
