The spot where Ruby Leni now stands was originally home to another hotel. Stardom beckoned though, and in 1910 the Dusseldorfer Operettenhaus set their stage on the site.
In 1951, the Dusseldorfer Schauspielhaus moved in, quickly making its name as one of Europe’s leading theatres. In fact, Leni takes her name from Helena in Gustav Gründgens’ ground-breaking production of Goethe’s Faust which premiered at the Schauspielhaus in the 1950s, before becoming a movie classic.
Recalling her time in the limelight, we’ve set the scene with antique props and costumes, along with sweeping lines, plush fabrics and carefully chosen vintage pieces.
The bar menu, meanwhile, is thoroughly modern, from the tasty breakfast and barista coffee to eclectic cocktails and Italian-inspired snacks. On warm evenings, head to the terrace to watch the sun go down and the world go by.
Leni’s rooms all reflect our Lean Luxury style, with a big, comfy bed, a rainfall shower and soft, fluffy towels, while a dressing room mirror, scenery features and a Marshall amp all add a backstage buzz.
For longer stays, more spacious Resident rooms come complete with a coffee machine, fridge and a bigger wardrobe. And, to help you feel more at home, there’s a Residents’ kitchen and lounge to cook up a storm or kick back and relax.
Decked out with antique props and carefully curated vintage furniture, the 24-hour bar recalls Leni’s time in the limelight. It’s an inspiring space where people come together to share tall tales and grand plans, catch an up-and-coming band or just unwind with a skilfully shaken cocktail.
Find an armchair in a cosy nook, grab a table or perch at the bar – our designers have made sure there’s a comfy spot for everyone.
On sunny days and balmy evenings, our ground-floor terrace is the place to be – if only for the people-watching.
Start your day with an al fresco breakfast, spend a lazy afternoon basking with a book or kick back with a cocktail on a summer’s evening.
Check out our Events page to see what’s happening on the terrace while you’re in town.

Since the start, we’ve taken lots of steps to be sustainable. From choosing renewable energy to streamlining systems to reduce paper use, some of it’s behind the scenes.
In your room though, you’ll notice smart lighting and refillable Ruby Care amenity bottles, along with renewable natural materials like wood panelling and flooring. Where possible, we also rescue and restore second-hand furniture to add character and cut our carbon footprint.
We’re lucky enough to have some brilliant local suppliers in our home cities. That means we can keep our food and drink miles down on everything from breakfast treats to beer and wine.

Tucked away on a tree-lined street dotted with quaint restaurants and bars, a three-minute stroll from the boutiques and cafés of Königsallee, Ruby Leni offers a charming retreat in the heart of Dusseldorf.
When you’ve had your fill of the Kö’s latest fashions, the old town is a short walk away. Weave through pretty squares, drop in on a museum and stop off for a coffee en route to the Rhine.
With its friendly bars and restaurants, the riverside’s a popular spot for a sundowner. So grab a table, order an Altbier and watch the world – and the boats – go by. If you’ve something livelier in mind, the bustle and beer kegs of Ratinger Strasse, nicknamed ‘the longest bar in the world’, is a short walk inland.
With Graf-Adolf-Platz U-Bahn station and Berliner Allee tram stop around three minutes away on foot, Leni’s two stops from the city’s main station, from where the airport can be reached in under ten minutes.
Luckily, we have a small garage at the hotel, where you can park comfortably. Please note, that due to the limited spaces available, it is first come, first served and we cannot guarantee parking spots. The price is €17 for 24h.
Like you, we travel a lot. And wherever we go, we expect three things: a great night’s sleep, a powerful shower and top-notch connections – both to the city and the WiFi.
What we’re less keen on is paying for extras we never use. In dynamic cities bursting with Michelin stars and foodie pop-ups, room service sandwiches just don’t cut the mustard.
So we set out to create the best of both worlds – hotels with style and substance, but none of those expensive extras.
It’s what we call Lean Luxury.
To us, luxury means laid-back comfort in characterful surroundings, right in the heart of the city.
The lean part is all about being smart with space, streamlining things behind the scenes and doing away with the things you don’t need.
This innovative approach saves us and you money, without compromising on comfort.
Please note, bookings of up to nine rooms can only be made online using a valid credit card.
